Labor Day Weekend in Big Bear - Day 2

Amazingly enough nobody woke up with a hangover on Saturday. That meant it was time to go mountain bike riding! We heard reports on the radio that a storm was brewing and that there were some flash flood warnings in effect, but we decided to chance it and took the sky chairs up the mountain and went riding anyways. It was awesome! Despite it hailing like crazy when we were at the peak, Naomi and Jasmine both bailing and getting scraped up, and Mongy breaking his bike chain and having to descend early, it was one of the most fun rides I've ever been on. Group rides kick ass! Later that evening we partied a bit more, ate a ton of food and danced the night away listening to Journey and other lame classics on the back porch...

Labor Day Weekend in Big Bear - Day 1

Since Labor Day weekend usually sucks, this year my fiance, my cousins and a bunch of our significant others and friends decided to do a Big Bear trip. We knew we could eat a ridiculous amount of BBQ food, drink a shit load of beer, and most importantly go riding on some of the coolest trails in Southern California (well that was what I wanted to do anyways). All of us took Friday off and we got up to the Cabin around 1:30 but couldn't officially check in until 3. Upon entry we wasted no time in getting down to business.

The Night Stalker

In need of a good book to read, I was reminded of a book I had attempted to read about 10 years back but had failed. During my first attempt, I got seriously sketched out after only a few chapters and gave the book away. That was that. The book was The Night Stalker by Philip Carlo. Anyone who is my age or older and grew up in Southern California around the Glendale/ Pasadena/ Burbank area will definitely remember this guy. The Night Stalker basically had all of So Cal on pins and needles for a year or two, committing brutal murder after murder. Then when you also throw in his Satanic element it basically guaranteed that paranoia would be everywhere. I remember seeing the police drawing of him at the local Taco Bell, and being scared as hell that he would pay our house a visit on some unfortunate evening. During this time I was so scared that I slept on a cot in my parents bedroom, and my parents, as many other people around So Cal did, added extra locks to nearly every door in the house, making sure there was no way possible a break in could happen without us being woken up. Those were some truly frightening times... Anyways, in the spirit of freaking myself out once again and rekindling some old memories I decided to pick the book up and give it another go. Let's just say that it is a major page turner. Since starting last night I'm already about 200 pages in and cant wait to read more. So if you are a fan of true crime novels like myself, and want to read one of the freakiest books that actually took place right in our own backyards, pick this book up. You won't be dissapointed.

8 GIGS OF DEATH METAL

A friend of mine who has been into Death and Black Metal since high school just hooked me up with a ton of new music. I probably spent 6 to 10 hours on sunday importing all of the music and transferring it to my IPod. It's all I've been listening to for the past 3 days now, and about 75% of everything I've heard so far is bad ass. I think a re-read Lord of Chaos might be on tap in the near future.

GOLD IT IS!

The Men's USA Basketball team won the gold last night in a game I couldn't watch since my High Definition signal crapped out on me. Oh well... all that matters is that we won and that the Olympics are now over. I have to admit, I watched a ton of it this year, and I will be very glad to have my free time back instead of being glued to the TV every night after work.

Full Moon Hike... Well Sort Of

So my girl booked a hike for us up in the Mulholland canyon area tonight, which according to the brochure was supposed to be a FULL MOON hike. Anyways, we showed up but the moon didn't! WEAK! Regardless of the moons presence, it was still a great time, a good workout, and a chance to enjoy nature in the final hours of what was left of the weekend. I had hiked this same trail a while back but that time it was during the day. This was way better. Less bozos on the trail, the weather was nicer and we even saw some huge Tarantula walking along oblivious that a human might accidentally step on it at any moment.

Azimuth & Madlib @ The Echoplex

A bunch of us went and checked out this show tonight. It was definitely a good time, but most importantly I learned that some bars now have Red Bull on tap! Madlib came on first and played a psychedelic mix of Brazilian tunes which got the party started. Then came J-Rocc who boggled everyone's mind once again with his insane turntable skills, and finally Azimuth came on with their super laid back but tripped out jazz/ rock music. Unfortunately by the time they came on I was exhausted so my lady and i took off after only about 30 minutes of their set. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this kind of shit, but I cannot stand around doing nothing for 3 hours at a concert nodding my head like I used to!

China From WWF's #1 Fan

This is a ridiculous clip of my friend Kris's old roommate Sean. I guess he became the first openly gay contestant on the remake of American Gladiators. Unfortunately we never got to see the full episode where he gets pummeled by the Gladiators... However it appears that he acted like enough of a whack job that The Soup took notice and clowned him on their show. Nice!

Olympics 2008 - Let The Games Begin!

I can't wait to see the opening ceremony tonight for the first time in Hi Def. It looks like its going to be a mind blower based on the pics I've seen so far. If USA Basketball doesn't take home the gold this year I am going to be very disappointed. USA USA USA!

2008-2009 NBA Schedule Is Out

The NBA just released the season schedule for next year. I cannot wait for Christmas Day when the Lakers play the Celtics and get revenge. Especially since that idiot Paul Pierce is claiming he is the best player in the world! What a joke! He's not even in the top 10 as far as NBA stars go.
